ACCEL presents summer 2012
The Autism Center of the Toledo Hearing and Speech Center is now enrolling for its Summer 2012 ACCEL program. ACCEL (Autism Center Creates Extraordinary Learners) is pleased to announce four different summer programs designed for children to work on life skills, but to also enjoy some summer fun!
Little Flyers – children ages 3-5 will participate in a variety of fun activities while developing beginner academic skills and learning to function appropriately in a group setting. Speech and Occupational therapy are included in this program that meets Monday through Thursdays from 8am-12pm, June 18 through August 9.
Mighty Rockets – children ages 6-8 will participate in a variety of fun activities while continuing to work on academic skills necessary to be successful in a school classroom environment. Speech and Occupational therapy are included in this program that meets Monday through Thursday from 12:30pm to 4pm, June 18 through August 9.
Summer Skills - The summer skills program offers an engaging environment for children ages 9-11. These children will have the opportunity to work in a small group atmosphere and continue to build academic and social skills. Those participating in the program will receive programming designed to match their specific needs and will receive ABA, Speech and OT. This group meets Monday-Thursday from 9am-3pm beginning June 18th and ending August 9th.
Summer Socials – summer is the best time to have fun and make friends. With a variety of different activities to enjoy on a weekly basis this group will have fun working on developing relationships, holding socially appropriate conversations and participating in activities that will foster development of life skills. While out in the community, there will be plenty of opportunities to facilitate in the learning and generalization of social skills. This group will serve children ages 8-16 (subgroups will be formed according to age range) and is intended not only for children with an autism diagnosis, but for any child to has trouble with social relationships. This program will run on Fridays from June 15 through August 10. Times will vary depending on the activity scheduled.
Accelerated Music – this small group will focus on beginner piano skills through game play and piano practice utilizing the Visual Music Concepts curriculum. Students will learn to sight read music, find notes on the piano, keep a steady rhythm and play beginner songs. A recital will be held at the end of summer for your child to showcase their newfound musical talent. This group is open to any child with developmental delay/disabilities, and will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8a-9a beginning June 19 and ending August 9.
In addition to ACCEL programs, the Autism Center also provides individual ABA therapy in the Center, home or school classroom locations. Behavioral assessments/plans also are provided through the Center, as well as individual piano instruction through Visual Music Concepts. Toledo Hearing and Speech Center also has opening for individuals needing speech and occupational therapy, either individually or in a group setting.
